OUR FOUNDER
Meet Lauren
Vakker may be a new brand born from a desire to dress more sustainably in an increasingly unsustainable world, combined with a fashion industry career pivot in pursuit of a passion to dress the world regardless of shape, size, or skin color, but these concepts have lived at the heart of the styling philosophy of Lauren Abbondola and by extension Vakker.
Graduating FIT and diving head first into the high-fashion editorial world, Lauren saw first hand the fast-fashion waste polluting the ubiquitous wear-once clothing economy we have unfortunately found ourselves mired in. Recognizing that there is no shortage of clothes, just a shortage of connections between people and clothes they can love forever, Lauren felt called to start Vakker, a business that began as long cold days sourcing pieces around the greater NYC area selecting only the best, most fashionable pieces destined to be something more.
Lauren brings to Vakker over a decade of styling experience, curating each and every highly unique, hand-selected piece available on this site. From blazers that can carry anyone effortlessly from work to happy hour to a night out, timeless essentials, to everything in between, Vakker welcomes you to a community of like-minded, well-dressed individuals seeking high-quality vintage items at a fraction of the prices you would find for the same brand labels in the department stores and vintage shops.
Vakker focuses on creating a sustainable and eco-friendly circulation of pre-loved, high-quality vintage clothes that would otherwise wither away on a second-hand store rack. Saving beautiful clothes that have withstood the test of time from spending eternity in a landfill, while connecting you with on-trend and nostalgic items.
Vakker was created with all shapes, sizes and genders in mind, and supports the rights of every human to be who they want to be and wear what they want to wear. You think you can’t wear something on this site because of who you are? Vakker is here to prove you wrong.
Vakker is a local NYC, woman-owned business, and curates every piece it sells from local businesses, so every purchase supports many women-owned small-businesses.
